Day Camps

Regrettably there will be no day camps this summer at YCB.

This camp is designed to function as an introduction to the arts of archery and fencing. Its mission is to provide campers with a safe, nurturing, and fun environment in which to explore and develop their abilities in archery and fencing. The main purpose is to provide fun and games, but the intention is for the participants to also have an educational experience.

The archery portion of the camp will teach campers the proper handling of bows and arrows. With safety as the highest priority, shooting at targets at various distances, proper etiquette, knowledge on equipment and tournament rules are taught in this segment. Practice by way of many archery games will result in all the youths achieving a reasonable knowledge about the sport. A field tournament on the last day will provide the opportunity to show off their new-found skills.

The fencing portion of the camp will focus on the use of the sword (epee). Safety again remains the highest priority. Etiquette, the rules of the game and technique will be taught through demonstration, drills, games, and partner work. By the end of the camp, students should have a basic understanding of fencing technique and strategy. The campers will get a chance to put their skills to the test in a mini-tournament on the last day of camp.

There will be a BBQ lunch, and other fun activities throughout the week, as well as special instructional guests from the archery and fencing community. No experience in archery or fencing is necessary, and all equipment is provided.
