Purpose of the Special Meeting
Subsequent to Chris Wu’s suspension from all coaching activity at YCB (Notice of
Suspension letter dated January 9, 2025) and subsequent violation of his suspension
on February 23, 2025 (Notice and final warning issued March 8, 2025 following Board
review) Chris was observed by multiple individuals on multiple occasions engaged in
activity believed to be consistent with coaching activity contrary to his suspension.
This special meeting was called for the Board to review video footage of the reported
violations of Chris’s suspension and:
1) Vote on whether the observed behaviour is consistent with that of an individual
engaged in coaching activity.
2) Vote on appropriate discipline, if behaviour is deemed to be in violation of Chris’s
suspension.
Summary of Discussion
Chris Wu was observed by multiple members on multiple occasions to be
engaged in coaching activity. Specifically:
1. June 28, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m. advised by a member to Paul
Johnson, VP after which Paul preserved video recording.
2. July 15, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., observed and advised by Larry
Reid, Director Field to Paul who preserved video recording.
3. July 17, 2025 at approximately 6:30 p.m., observed and advised by Bela
Kutasi, member, to Paul who preserved video recording.
Prior to reviewing the preserved videos, Board members reviewed the elements
representative of coaching activity agreed to at the March 2025 YCB Board
meeting. (At that time, Chris’s behaviour was reviewed for violation of his
suspension from all coaching activity at YCB for a period of 2 years.) The
elements deemed to be representative of coaching activity are; pre-arranged,
structured and repeated instruction given to a student during a defined, extended
timeframe. Casual tips or pointers offered by one member to another are not
considered coaching.
With the above elements of coaching activity in mind the Board members
attending the Zoom call reviewed abridged video extracts from the 3 reported
incidents. The 2 Board members unable to attend the Zoom call were provided
the same video extracts by way of shared file to review.
Following the video review, Board members in attendance and, by separate
email to the 2 members unable to attend in person, were asked.
1) In their opinion, was the behavior of Chris Wu observed on the videos
consistent with that of an individual engaged in coaching activity?
2) Should Chris Wu’s membership be terminated as stated in the final warning
issued to Chris Wu on March 8, 2025, should he continue to violate the terms
of his suspension from coaching activity at YCB?
Results of Board Vote
1) Was Chris Wu’s behaviour, as observed in the videos, consistent with that of an
individual engaged in coaching activity?
Unanimous Yes response
2) Should Chris Wu’s membership be terminated based on the demonstrated
behaviour?
Unanimous Yes response
Action to Be taken
President to Advise Chris, in writing that:
1) Chris’s membership is suspended effective July 30, 2025 for a 15 day period to
allow Chris appeal to the Board in writing or in person, as outlined in YCB’s
Disciplinary Process.
2) Effective August 14, 2025 membership will be terminated.
